Hen Pecked
So, as stated before, I have chickens. Of all shapes and sizes. About 50 of them.

Chickens are very hard on the earth. High nitrogen poop & constant digging makes the ground muddy and smelly. We move the panels around to give them new grass every few days, however the common ground is always stressed.
There is such a thing as a pecking order. The hen with the least seniority gets picked on by everyone else, but is not allowed to peck on anyone above her. The top bird, on the other hand, can pick/peck on down the line with nary a problem and everyone in-between knows who they can peck and who they can't.

I think this one looks the worst.

But she is not alone. These ladies are also a little chilly around the tail. Sorry about the focus, I didn't change the shutter speed.
Thing is, once chickens see blood, they pick and peck at it, causing more trauma and it can kill the victim. Kinda reminds me of bullying.
LATELY, I've been seeing around here lots of passion without compassion... it's one of the reasons I dislike discussing religion & politics. However, I have read a few posts where the 'chickens start pecking' and the stuff that comes out of people's um, keyboards, makes me wonder "WTF is going on?!" Once the sharks start to circle, watch-out! I've seen people calling for the death of children with peanut allergies. I've seen mothers criticized viciously for their fairly normal parenting techniques. I've seen people harass others for whom they date. Finally I've seen posts about bullies become bullish in the comment section. I think I need to stay away from the themed featured areas...
I also would like it to be known that any trolls around here will be deleted and blocked. If people can't treat each other with respect, they can go elsewhere to do it.
I knew I hated people.

What an interesting comparison! I guess chickens are as mean as people. That is one of the reasons I post protected a lot. I have had people just pop onto my site just to start a fight. I block and delete a lot, too. I just have no patience for people like that.
I hope you had a good weekend!
I try and stay away from posting about politics and religion. Too many trolls out there. An intetresting idea about chickens. Good luck with the chickens...
I love the comparison. I don't get into the drama of Xanga and I don't create drama on my page. I steer clear of religion and politics and I could care less who dates hom, after all, I should be the LAST person to stir that pot.
I wish people could just all play nice in the sandbox, but I'm sure that's asking an awful lot. I also steer clear of the front page. As far as the trolls go, I've become very well aquainted with the block feature of Xanga. Sad, but true!
Hah. My life has more than enough drama in it without seeking it out online, too
Your chooks are smashing - nothing beats fresh eggs!
Chickens kinda scare me a little bit. Not really in person, more... philosophically.
Interesting... about the chickens. I've always thought I'd like fresh eggs, but wasn't sure how much work a few hens would be.
Anywhere people can be pretty much anonymous has the potential of being a place bullying happens. I rarely get into it with people, but on the occasion that someone comes after me, I just imagine them as a 12 year old know it all or a weirdo sitting around in their underpants with nothing better to do.
people in general are horrid but as individuals they have the ability to be a decent lot. It is just that one apple that spoils the whole barrell.
I think chickens are mean because they are too chicken to stand up and not follow the pecking order. Or something like that.
@skanickadee - Chickens are much too stupid to be like people... well, wait a minute, maybe you have something there...

@Zoz36 - I also stay away from discussing politics or religion - unless it is about the spaghetti monster religion, I love talking silly.
@ShadesOfAnnie - I wish people would play nice too. I'm sure that now I'm going to avoid the front page unless I can skip thru without reading much...
@Morgane - I hear you and I understand. I like my drama on stage. My smashing chickies thank you and say that a good whisk beats fresh eggs very nicely - you should try it!
@randaness - expand upon this please, I am dying to know what you mean!
@Pepin909 - A few hens are not a lot of work. I have far too many, but I sell the eggs. I absolutely LOVE the mental troll picture you've given me to work with.
@alterEGGO - I do hear you and agree. It is a huge generality that I make, BUT there is more fun to poke at that way. Now I'll have to shut the flock up 'cause I can't follow orders with rotten barrels... or something.
Thanks guys! Love to get comments!
@wickedgood - lol, I have no idea what I mean.
@randaness - that's good because chickens really don't do philosophy, unless it's about getting more goodies to eat.
About being scared of the actual chickens, well, I can understand that, because sometimes they are rat bastards.
I lost baby chicks after they were injured because the other chicks pecked them to death.
I have been chick pecked (hen) at home and accept it like an average victim.
@ANVRSADDAY - You always make me smile! (except about the dead chick thing, that I am not smiling about)
Of course my hubby always says, "Yes, dear. I have no opinion."
The difference between people and chickens, though, is that when you get sick of the chickens attacking the others, you can eat them. We ate all our chickens because they were evil Nazi birds and had perfected an amazing group-effort flanking technique to kill and eat everyone else. They'd already eaten all the turkeys, quail and goslings and were moving on to the ducks when we acquainted them with the boom stick. Very tasty.
@blonde_apocalypse - You can't eat people who pick on others? Can you at least squash them like the little insignificant bugs they act like?
I enjoy poultry of all sorts on my dining table! YUM!
