Wicky does photoblog to show her sordid past
So it's a lazy Sunday afternoon and I decided to finish this photo album.
About me - and unless you've read me for a very long time (and most of you haven't as I've only recently returned and found my old friends mostly gone), you probably don't know much about me - First I am a theater geek. For the last 10 years I have been heavily involved in theater in almost all capacities. The main theater company I've worked with is the New Surry Theatre.
I told you that to tell you this: I figured it was time to expose my extroverted side.
Sarah Goode in "The Crucible" 2004
Bunny Flingus in "House of Blue Leaves" 2005
Fruma Sarah in "Fiddler on the Roof" 2006. I am sitting on my husband's shoulders chasing Tevye around a nightmare.
Diana in "Lend Me A Tenor" 2007
in "As Good As it Gets" - local playwrite. 2008
Lois Lane in a Radio Show of "Superman" 2008
Carol Wyman in "Laughter on the 23rd Floor" 2009
Director for "The Threepenny Opera" 2010 Dress Rehearsal I dressed in period clothing as a lark. Of course it's not the right period, but whatever!
Gloria Thorpe in "Damn Yankees" 2010
Director for "The Wizard of Oz" 2011
Director for "Man of La Mancha" 2012. Here I am talking to the audience about an unexpected delay - otherwise there would be no pic as director.
I played two characters in "Oliver!" 2012. Mrs. Bedwin the housekeeper & Mrs. Sowerberry the undertaker's wife (just doused with water.)
Finally this was practice for my theatrical make-up class. Aging & brutalizing myself was great!
My children, of course, have been traumatized with their mom exposing herself on stage. As a parent of teens, however, it is my job to embarrass my children thoroughly.
Thank you for being patient with my "Photo album." I find that being on stage means I haven't suppressed anything and have no regrets in life.
My current project is as director for an annual production of A One Man Show of "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens, which I co-adapted for the stage. The gent who plays well, um, EVERY ONE in the play is amazing. We joke that he is allowed to go off his personality disorder medication for this production, but he is able to 'make' the audience see everyone on the stage - and usually there are many people there. I can post stuff about that later if you like (and ask nicely of course.)
Now it's your turn to talk about your theatrical experience, be it professional, community, church, elementary school or dealing with (or being) an unruly toddler in the grocery store cereal aisle!

How very cool!!!! It was fun to see all those pictures from all of those productions. When my son finally gets his makeup done as a Kingon I will post a picture.
I was Auntie Em and a queen in grammar school. I couldn't imagine being on a stage now. I think it would scare me to death.
@skanickadee - I can't wait to see his make-up and costume!! Being the queen is the best and I do that as frequently as I can... sometimes 5 or 6 times per day! I always get shaky before singing a song on stage. If you start as an ensemble member, it is easy to get on stage to start
BUT, we ALWAYS appreciate an audience!
Thanks for the comment!
So cool. I was a theatre geek in High School and found that one of the best parts of college - the productions.
The one year we had a community theatre here I did lights. Wanted to be on stage but could find no one to run lights correctly for our production of "Our Town". It is definitely something I would go back to if presented the opportunity.
@Parker_Texas - dayum girlfriend! We always have need of lighting operators... you're just too far away
The only theater experience I have is sitting on one watching a movie.
In middle school or high school (9th or 10th grade) I did "Hello Dolly" and I was Dolly. I sang....and sang! Those were the good old days before work and five children! Your list is damn impressive! I think my son is pretty talented in theater but I cannot get him in yet...too busy with sports!
@Grannys_Place - enthusiastic audience members are ALWAYS appreciated. ( Plus, I'm sure there's been some drama in your life!)
.
@winniezpoo - I love singing! Dolly is an impressive role
I liked being in theater in high school because I could be whomever I wanted and if someone didn't like me, then I didn't have to take it personally. I was very shy growing up and this helped tremendously. Another thing that happened in HS that I loved was when the theater teacher got together with the soccer coach to cast "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" because we needed guys. EVERYONE had a blast actors & jocks alike!
These pictures are excellent! I envy people who have the confidence and talent to go up on stage in front of people and transform themselves into character
I painted backdrops for Lil Abner in high school - your album is mighty impressive!
@StarSpeckled - Thankye. I have a set designer, but I have painted many a set with her direction! It's so fun in many respects because what we've learned is it doesn't have to be right or good, it just has to LOOK good - masking tape covers up a lot.
I love the theatre, but don't tend to have much time to be involved with it. In my last year of high school I was in The Story of Harmelodia, which was based the Rheostatics album. I was the understudy for Dot, and was in the chorus.
Later I joined the local theatre guild and played Meg in Heartbeats (a locally-written one-act play), Bessie Sue Yaeger in the musical South Pacific, and I just finished doing The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. I had never done such a big role as when I was cast as Cecily, and I loved every minute of it.
SUMR
I actually prefer writing, so maybe someday I'll see something I've written being performed...
