Thanksgiving northern style
My husband is Canadian. I asked him about the Canadian Thanksgiving, certainly pilgrims weren't helped by the Natives in the same fashion there - and why it is in October? Personally I think October is a more appropriate time for a harvest festival, but I wondered about the Canadian story for Thanksgiving.
He said he didn't know. They had pictures of pilgrims and horns of plenty growing up just like we did.
As for the why it is in October he said, "Canadians don't celebrate leap year so over time the holiday has moved."
Dry wit, that man.
So, this year I finally found the story behind Canadian Thanksgiving on this link, and wanted to share in case you are interested.

Interesting and Ty for sharing this link.
Their Thanksgiving is as real as ours and thus equally important.
I did a book report on this a zillion years ago and found the facts quite interesting and this link made it even more so.
Thanks for the lovely share. Always nice to learn new things.
I guess it is nice our two nations have a Thanksgiving Day. It is nice to set aside one day to explore blessings and benefits.
I love having Thanksgiving in October, that way can have a early start to Christmas in November.
Very interesting! Guess what I uncovered in the pile of mail? Yes, an envelope from you with the gorgeous socks - as earrings even!! Thank you Shari they are amazing!!
@murisopsis - I'm so glad you received them. Holly Hippo days!
@angys_coco - LOL! So you DO have a leap year problem!

@ANVRSADDAY - indeed! a day for celebrating our blessings... and then a day where we try and kill each other to buy more stuff.
@MzSilver - According to the story, their Thanksgiving was FIRST and I think we don't know about it because the US is suppressing that information... it's so top secret that even the average Canadians don't know about it!
@Grannys_Place - Thanks for stopping!
