  • My little bunny is sick today.  Not a big deal, a fever and cough, she'll be better soon enough.  So I sit at home with her on the couch while she watches cartoons or sleeps.  Meanwhile there are other health issues for her that I have been dealing with.

The first is her gut.  She has diarrhea and has had it ever since before I picked her up in India.  There are many contributing factors and we have ruled out parasites.  At this time we are looking at food sensitivity and an out of balance digestive tract.

Since it is an issue we are working on with the doctor's help, and since I have to verify if a treatment is working we talk a lot about poop.  Lucky me, I get moment by moment potty up-dates, "I have to poop, Mom." then, "I only peed, Mom, can I flush the potty?" or,  "I POOPED MOM!  Come see!"

All these are usually said in her loudest voice and frequently when I am on the phone or something equally helpful.  I am under whelmed to be sure.

A couple of weeks ago when we went to pre-Kindergarten screening, the nurse noticed that Seeta favored her left eye.  This is an understatement.  She refused to look out of her right eye to have it tested.  We'd cover it up, and she'd peek around the paddle.  So I thought, "Is she blind in that eye?"

Last week we went to the eye doctor.  Nope, not blind, but not even close to good.  Without glasses, she can not even identify the big E on the wall.  I'm told she has worse than 20/400 vision in that eye.  She could see the E, but didn't know what it was.  I had no clue her sight was off.  Her left eye is so strong that it compensates totally - even with depth perception, and that's really hard to do.

So, she got her glasses (I'll get a picture of her with glasses, she's pretty cute,) and we have to patch the good eye for an hour a day to strengthen the weak one.

This is easier said than done, however.  She's gotten really good at pulling off the corner of the patch and peeking out through it so I can't easily tell.  Luckily for me her older siblings just love to tattle!  I've gotten a stronger tape to keep the patch on.  Now the fortified patch is a bear to remove.  sigh.  What is it about raising kids that has to be so difficult?

The good news is that her right eye with work will become stronger.  Not 20/20, but maybe 20/30 - provided she will comply with the doctor's guidelines.  We will have regularly scheduled checks for her in this department.

Have you guessed that I am not thrilled about doctor's offices lately?  I mean I'm glad that we have the ability to get help, but I'm tired of being in them just the same.

  • Sorry to hear about the problems, Fred, but I'm glad that she's got parents who can look after her and help her get through it. Take care of yourself too. And don't go looking too deeply into that poo-filled potty, okay ?

  • Oh, poor baby!! I hope she gets to feeling better. Miss Anna wen through the whole bowel problems when she was a baby, but she outgrew them and is going strong now.

Oh, Lord...I just said "going strong." *sigh and shakes head* Lord, I am losing it.

I cannot wait to see your little Miss in her new glasses! I bet she is just darling.

  • Oh, it's probably not just raising kids. I think life has to be difficult for us to get anything worthwhile out of it.

My wife has independent vision. She had to wear a patch when she was a little girl. She didn't do well with that.

  • Awww the poor little thing ~ what a performance!!  It sounds like she's settled in beautifully though, trials and all

  • All this time I was completely unaware your name was fred. Ahem.

I hope you get things sorted out soon. The doctors office isn't a fun place to be for anyone.

  • Poor little thing...I hope that eye of hers gets stronger.

  • Do you mind if I stop in to say that I just RE_DISCOVERED that you are a Zippy Pinhead lover?! That rocks, so hard!

  • I'm sorry to hear that Seeta has been ill, and that she's had such a rough time with her right eye. I am encouraged that it will improve over time. I look forward to seeing an updated picture of her in her new glasses!

Thanks for your comment in my guestbook! It would be wonderful to get together at some point, either up here or down there.....we're really not all that far apart.

    Enjoy your weekend!!

  • Marvious to read about Seeta again. India, the tick-fly there can make eyes bad, maybe in a couple of years her eyes will get better. I wore glasses at 4, by the age of ten my eyes were perfect, still rarely wear glasses even today at 56.

Nice to see you blogging again.

    Terry.

  • Aww. I hope she gets better soon with her poop and her eyes.

  • I had the same problem as seeta when I was little my parents could not get me to wear the eyepatch, because I was pretty much blind when I wore it. so I refused. ha. so now I see out of one eye and I make due, probably not the best senario but I do all right.

I hope all her health issues get cleared up! I keep thinking what her life would be like otherwise... you're dong something really wonderful :)

  • Seeta is really lucky that her eye doctor gave her ways to strengthen her eye. My doctor told my mom I had a lazy eye and just gave me stronger perscritions each time to charge more for glasses.  So therefore I am stuck with ultra thick lenses in my left eye and 20 vision in my right eye. Fun-Fun!

Sorry about the invite...it must have gotten lost in the mail. *uncomfortable laugh*

  • You could try dressing up her bear or doll with a patch. I know someone who did that and it helped the child.

Rough patch, sorry, I hope she will be better soon.

  • Poor little thing, nothing tears my heart more than a sick child. One of my own saying in the hospital "please don't let them hurt me again" started this. People said I was not hard-nosed enough to be a successful reporter, maybe not, but it's strange that having no empathy has made me very silly when it comes to anyone feeling ill or sad.

Poor Bunny, wish I could say more.

  • I hope the poop peeping period is over.... watching tea leaves is no doubt much more fun! The problem with raising kids is that you're not allowed to use a tranquilizer gun I hope some feeling of peace and quiet has descended upon you and your family.... how are the Canada plans going?

  • Wow.  Sounds like you've been busy.

  • Sorry..Been a bit..Miss you and am still reading your site!!  Hope you get the doctor things worked out and that Seeta leaves her patch on!!!

    HUGZ

    ME!!

  • Hello. Had almost forgotten about Xanga, obviously had to do some catching up to sort out the whole Seeta thing. Good luck.
